The matching sweatsuit is the most comfortable outfit you own, and done right it looks put together. Here is how to wear a sweat set to brunch, to travel and around town, plus how to choose one that lasts.

The short answer: a matching sweat set looks intentional outside the house when the colour is the same top and bottom, the fit is relaxed but not sloppy, and one or two pieces around it (clean trainers, a structured bag, a cap or beanie) show you chose it on purpose. Get those right and a sweatsuit works for travel, errands, brunch and most places that do not have a dress code.
Matching sets used to be loungewear you hid at home. Now they are one of the most searched outfits in athleisure, and the reason is simple: one decision gets you dressed, and it is the softest decision available.
Why matching beats mixing
A grey hoodie with black joggers looks like you grabbed the first two things in the drawer. The same hoodie and joggers in one colour look like an outfit. Matching does the styling for you: the eye reads one long, unbroken line from shoulder to ankle, which is both cleaner and more flattering.
It also makes colour easy. A full set in red, fuchsia or azure is a bold look that needs nothing else, because there is nothing to clash with.
Choosing your set: the cut matters more than the brand
Our sets come in a few shapes, and each one suits a different look:
- LIT Sweat Suit: an oversized hoodie with dropped shoulders, a lined hood and a kangaroo pocket, with relaxed wide-leg sweats that carry LIT in collegiate letters on the thigh. The classic. In pink and red.
- Mountain Hoodie & Sweats Set: a cropped, oversized hoodie with a cinched drawstring hem and a mountain range across the chest, over high-rise wide-leg sweats. The cropped top shows the waistband and lengthens the leg. In azure and rust.
- LIT Shadow Set: a boxy crop top with rolled cuffs and high-rise sweat shorts in faded shadow black. The warm-weather version.
On the two-piece sets, one size covers both pieces. If you need a different size top and bottom, buy the pieces separately: each is sold on its own too.
Four ways to wear a sweat set outside
1. The travel uniform
Sweat set, clean white trainers, a crossbody or sling bag for passport and phone. Comfortable for a long flight, easy through security, and you arrive looking like you meant it. A heavy fleece set is warm enough for a cold cabin without a jacket.
2. Brunch and errands
Wear the hoodie with the hood down and the sleeves pushed up a little, add a cap and small gold jewellery. The accessories are what move it from "just woke up" to "chose this".
3. The split set
Wear half the set with something else: the hoodie over leggings, or the sweats with a fitted tee or a heavyweight tee. You get two or three outfits from one purchase.
4. Gym to everywhere
Train in a tank and shorts, pull the set over the top afterwards. A matching set is the most comfortable thing to drive home in, and it keeps you warm while your body cools down.
What separates a good sweat set from a cheap one
- Weight. Heavier fleece and French terry hang straight and keep their shape. Thin sets cling, pill and bag out at the knees after a few washes.
- Waistband. A wide elastic waistband with a drawcord stays put and does not roll. Our wide-leg sweats have one, plus deep side pockets that actually hold a phone.
- Hood. A lined hood stands up and frames the face. An unlined one folds flat.
- Ribbing. Ribbed cuffs and hems keep the relaxed shape tidy at the edges.
How to keep a sweat set looking new
Wash it inside out, in cold water, with similar colours, and skip fabric softener, which coats the fibres and flattens the soft inside. Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Do not iron over the prints. Bright colours like red and fuchsia stay brighter when washed cold and inside out.
Matching sets are the closest thing to a uniform most of us will ever wear by choice. Pick a colour you love and let it do the work.

Common questions
Still wondering? Answered from the piece itself.
Can you wear a matching sweat set in public?
Yes. Matching sets are widely worn for travel, errands, brunch and casual plans. Keep the colour the same top and bottom, wear clean trainers, and add one structured accessory like a cap or a crossbody bag so the outfit looks chosen.
Do I buy one size for both pieces of a LIT set?
Yes. On the LIT two-piece sets, the size you choose applies to both the top and the bottoms. If you need different sizes top and bottom, buy the hoodie and the sweats separately.
Is a cropped hoodie set or a full-length set more flattering?
It depends on the look you want. A cropped hoodie over high-rise sweats shows the waistband and lengthens the leg. A full-length oversized hoodie gives a relaxed, all-over shape. Both are comfortable; try the cropped Mountain set if you usually tuck or half-tuck your tops.
How do I stop sweatpants from pilling?
Wash them inside out in cold water with similar fabrics, avoid fabric softener, and tumble dry on low or hang them. Heavier fabrics also pill less than thin ones.
What colours do LIT sweat sets come in?
The LIT Sweat Suit comes in pink and red, the Mountain Hoodie and Sweats Set in teal and rust, and the Shadow Set in shadow black.
